Majority of Americans don’t have confidence in Donald Trump’s ability to handle Presidency

According to a new Gallop poll, less than half of Americans are confident that Donald Trump can handle the responsibilities of office.

  • Only 46 percent of Americans are optimistic in Donald Trump’s ability to handle an international crisis
  • Only 47 percent of Americans say they are confident that Donald Trump can use military force wisely
  • And only 44 percent of Americans believe Trump can prevent major scandals in his administration.

When compared to the last three U.S. presidents – Barack Obama, George W Bush and Bill Clinton – when they took office, Americans have much lower levels of confidence in Donald Trump’s ability to perform the duties of the office. At least 7 in 10 Americans were confident in key issues before Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton entered the White House.

According to Gallop, “…the public is much less confident in Trump than in his predecessors to handle several of a president’s major tasks, including dealing with challenging foreign policy matters such as handling an international crisis or using U.S. military force.”

Least popular president in modern history

And a Gallop poll from November, shortly after the election saw Trump’s favorability rating increase slightly to 42% favorability – the lowest in modern history.
