Trump Attacks Freedom Of Press On Twitter, Joe Scarborough Responds By Calling Him “FAKE PRESIDENT”

Progressives don’t normally find common cause with conservative TV show hosts, but these my friends are not normal times. Donald Trump today said something that until recently would have been completely unthinkable from an American President. Trump attacked the freedom of the press by calling them “the enemy of the American people.” Make no mistake, this is an assault on the First Amendment from the President of the United States. It is so far out of bounds that even for Trump this is surprising.

(Editors note: Donald, it is becoming increasingly clear every day, with your words and actions attacking American values and the institutions of our democracy, that you are in fact the enemy of the American people.)

In a truly shocking statement for an American president, Trump tweeted: “The FAKE NEWS media (failing @nytimes, @NBCNews, @ABC, @CBS, @CNN) is not my enemy, it is the enemy of the American People!”

Well former Republican Congressman and current host of MSNBC’S Morning Joe responded to Trump by slamming him as a “FAKE PRESIDENT.”

Scarborough tweeted, “Only a FAKE PRESIDENT would declare the First Amendment to be the enemy of the American people.”

Scarborough followed that up with, “It’s not even Saturday morning and someone is already losing his shit.”

And in his third tweet, Scarborough said, “This president attacks the judiciary’s legitimacy, the intel community, and calls press outlets critical to him ‘the enemy of the people.'”

Scarborough then called on conservatives to start speaking up against Trump’s attacks on democratic institutions saying, “Conservatives, feel free to speak up for the Constitution anytime the mood strikes. It is time.”
