Nancy Pelosi Calls For Speaker Ryan To Insist Nunes Recuse Himself

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi joined other prominent congressional Democrats in calling for Congressman Devin Nunes to recuse himself. In a statement, Pelosi said that Speaker Paul Ryan must insist that Nunes recuse himself from the Russia investigation.

“The Chair of the House Intelligence has a serious responsibility to the Congress and to the Country.  Chairman Nunes’ discredited behavior has tarnished that office,” Pelosi said in a statement Monday.

Pelosi continued, “Speaker Ryan must insist that Chairman Nunes at least recuse himself from the Trump-Russia investigation immediately. That leadership is long overdue.”

On Monday, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee Congressman Adam Schiff on Monday called for Republican Congressman Nunes to recuse himself from the committee’s investigation into Russia. In a statement Schiff said, “After much consideration, and in light of the Chairman’s admission that he met with his source of information at the White House, I believe that the Chairman should recuse himself from any further involvement in oversight of matters pertaining to any incidental collection of the Trump transition, as he was also a key member of the transition team.”

Charles Schumer, the Democratic leader in the Senate, also called for Nunes to recuse himself.

“Without further adieu, Speaker Ryan should replace Chairman Nunes,” Schumer said on the Senate floor. “If Speaker Ryan wants the House to have a credible investigation he needs to replace Chairman Nunes.”

“Chairman Nunes is falling down on the job and seems to be more interested in protecting the president than in seeking the truth. You cannot have the person in charge of an impartial investigation be partial to one side. It’s an inherent contradiction,” Schumer added.
