Trump Puts Trip to Britain on Hold, Scared of Protests

Looks like the London mayor may have gotten his wish.

The Guardian is reporting that Donald Trump has called British Prime Minister Theresa May, explaining that “he does not want to go ahead with a state visit to Britain until the British public supports him coming.”

The call was made recently, according to a Downing Street adviser. And those present said May was surprised. Trump also said that he refused to visit if there were large-scale protests.

May, who was the first foreign leader to visit Trump after the inauguration, invited Trump to Britain seven days into his presidency.

She told a joint press conference she had extended an invitation from the Queen to Trump and his wife, Melania, to make a state visit later in the year and was “delighted that the president has accepted that invitation”.

But citizens in the UK have been protesting his visit, and public opinion of Trump does not seem to get better any time soon.

Last week London Mayor Sadiq Khan has called on the British government to cancel a state visit from Donald Trump after Trump attacked his response to the terror attacks in London.
