The Special Counsel is in possession of “tens of thousands” of emails from the Trump transition team.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigators have obtained “tens of thousands” of emails from the Trump transition team, according to a new report.

Axios was first to report that Mueller is in possession of the Trump transition emails noting that it has caught Trump world off guard.

The emails Mueller has obtained include messages from President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and other senior members of the Trump transition.

Special Counsel prosecutors, Axios notes, have used the emails to question witnesses and generate new leads in their investigation.

According to Axios, Mueller obtained the emails from the General Services Administration (GSA), which managed the transition team’s email accounts.

Transition officials had originally assumed that Mueller would want the emails and separated the emails that they believed contained privileged information.

But Mueller able to obtain all the emails from 12 Trump transition email accounts.

The transition emails are said to include sensitive exchanges on matters that include potential appointments, gossip about the views of particular senators involved in the confirmation process, speculation about vulnerabilities of Trump nominees, strategizing about press statements, and policy planning on everything from war to taxes.

Thus far, Mueller’s investigation has led to major prosecutorial actions against four Trump associates.

Trump’s campaign chairman Paul Manafort and his deputy Rick gates were indicted for several crimes, including money laundering.

And Mike Flynn, Trump’s national security adviser, has pled guilty to lying to the FBI and is now cooperating with Mueller’s team. In addition to Flynn, another Trump campaign official, George Papadopoulos, also pled guilty to lying to the FBI and is cooperating with Mueller.
