Americans want Democrats to take back control of Congress.

Americans want a Democrat-controlled Congress after the 2018 midterm elections, a new NBC/WSJ poll finds.

The poll surveyed registered voters and found that 50 percent said they would rather see Democrats in control of Congress. Just 39 percent said they prefer Republicans in power.

The results represent a 4 point increase from the same poll in October.

This is the strongest position Democrats have been in since 2008 when they had a 14 point lead.

Democrats lead among young voters, ages 18–34 by 48 points.

Among women voters, Democrats lead by 20 points.

Republicans lead among white voters by just 2 points and among white voters without college degrees by 12 points.

Democrats have an intensity advantage over Republicans in 2018

The NBC/WSJ poll also found that Democrats have a massive intensity advantage over Republicans.

The poll found that 59 percent of Democratic voters saying they have a high level of interest in next year’s elections, compared to just 49 percent of Republican voters saying the same thing.

The poll also found that among Hillary Clinton voters, 62 percent have a high level of interest in next year’s midterms, compared to just with 50 percent of Trump voters.

About the poll: The NBC/WSJ poll was conducted Dec. 13-15 of 900 adults – nearly half reached by cell phone – and it has an overall margin of error of plus-minus 3.3 percentage points. The margin of error among the 736 registered voters is plus-minus 3.6 percentage points.
