Russia Successfully Hacked Into Voter Rolls In 2016: Report

A new report sheds light on just how deep the Russian election interference into the 2016 election was.

Russia’s election interference went deeper than previously thought.

According to a new report by NBC News, a U.S. cybersecurity official has confirmed that Russia “successfully penetrated” the voter rolls of a hand full of states in the 2016 election.

The NBC report quoted Jeanette Manfra, the head of cybersecurity at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), who confirmed that Russia targeted 21 states and “an exceptionally small number of them were actually successfully penetrated.”

DHS officials had previously only revealed that Russia targeted 21 states. The revelation that they successfully hacked into the voter rolls of some of those states is a new and troubling revelation.
