The Trump Administration is silencing their top officials, again.

The White House has blocked the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Dr. Robert Redfield, and other CDC officials from testifying in front of Congress next week. The House Education and Labor Committee will be holding a hearing to talk about reopening schools.

In an email shared with CNN, White House officials said, “Dr. Redfield has testified on the Hill at least four times over the last three months. We need our doctors focused on the pandemic response.”

Technically, the House Committee didn’t just call for Dr. Redfield – they asked for any CDC official to testify. Your move, Trump.

New School Year, New Problems

At a time where states are making the hard decision about how to start the new school year, it is crucial to get as much data and information to

CDC officials have delayed the release of new recommendations for sending children back to classrooms. However, Donald Trump has been pressuring schools and universities to reopen, and even threatening to withhold funding from schools that push back reopening.

This week, Trump called the decision by Los Angeles Unified School District to not reopen next month a “mistake” during a CBS News interview. He added, “I would tell parents and teachers that you should find yourself a new person, whoever’s in charge of that decision.”
