15 Million Will Lose Insurance If Republican Health Plan Passes: Report

Republicans have spent the last few days trying to discredit the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office in advance of their analysis on the Trump-Ryan health bill. Republicans are clearly concerned that the CBO will not have very good numbers for the Republican plan.

But policy experts at the Brookings Institute have performed their own analysis on the Republican bill and they found that the Republican plan would have a devastating impact on people’s lives.

“CBO’s analysis will likely estimate that at least 15 million people will lose coverage under the American Health Care Act (AHCA) by the end of the ten-year scoring window,” according to Brookings analysts Loren Adler and Matthew Fiedler. “Estimates could be higher, but it’s is unlikely they will be significantly lower.”

Brookings based their analysis on previous CBO reports.

As part of their conclusion Brookings noted, “Altogether, then, it’s plausible that the AHCA will increase the number of uninsured persons by more than 15 million, and unlikely that we’ll see a number much less than 15 million from the CBO.”

Standard & Poor also concluded that millions will lose health insurance, predicting that at least two to four million people will lose coverage.
