Republican Senator: Trump Admin Officials Are ‘Lying,’ Withholding Information On Russia

UPDATE: Senators Grassley and Feinstein emerged from a briefing with FBI Director Comey this afternoon and refused to tell reporters anything about their briefing. Many Washington observers have noted that the less Senators are willing to say to reporters after a confidential briefing, the more they just learned in that briefing.  Editorial note: both senators looked liked they’d seen a ghost.

Republican Senator Chuck Grassley, who is the Chairman of the Judiciary Committee, on Wednesday said that law enforcement officials in the Trump administration are withholding information in his committee’s investigation into the ties between Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign and Russia.

The Washington Post asked Senator Grassley if FBI Director James Comey gave his panel the same information he gave the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“Every time they come up here for their nomination hearing and I ask them are you going to answer phone calls and our letters and are you going to give us the documents you want? And every time we get a real positive yes! And then they end up being liars!” Grassley responded.

“It’s not if they’re treating us differently than another committee. It’s if they’re responding at all.”

Chuck Grassley and Democrat ranking member Dianne Feinstein have told reporters that they are expecting to get a closed-door briefing with James Comeylater Wednesday.
“I’ve been told that I’ll have a briefing this afternoon,” Grassley told reporters.
