Federal Judge Blocks Trump’s Sanctuary Cities Executive Order

Donald Trump just lost another court battle.

A Federal Judge in San Francisco has blocked enforcement of Donald Trump’s executive order barring federal funds from going to sanctuary cities.

San Francisco and Santa Clara Counties won a preliminary injunction against Donald Trump’s January executive order to withhold federal funds from cities that refuse to comply with federal authorities in enforcing immigration laws.

“The Constitution vests the spending powers in Congress, not the President, so the Order cannot constitutionally place new conditions on federal funds,” the judge ruled.

According to a Washington Post reporter, judges order would still allow the Justice Department to withhold grants from cities that don’t comply with the law, but it cannot enforce the order “in a way that violates the Constitution.”
