Trump White House, Transition Knew About Flynn’s Foreign Payments: Report

After months of denials from the White House, a new report from NBC News confirms that the Trump White House and transition both conducted background checks on Michael Flynn and were, in fact, aware of his payments from foreign governments. The report also noted that the Trump team did a subpar job vetting Flynn.

According to the report, the Trump White House and the Trump transition both conducted background checks on Flynn and were aware of the foreign payments when he was named national security adviser.

It’s been previously reported that Congressman Elijah Cummings wrote a letter to Mike Pense who was head of the transition warning him of Flynn’s Turkish lobbying.

The Trump administration has tried to blame President Obama for the Flynn mess but this new report confirms that not only did the Trump team do a poor job vetting Flynn but they also knew about Flynn’s foreign payments when they appointed him to be national security adviser.

Rachel Maddow broke the news on here program The Rachel Maddow Show Friday evening. “They are not telling the truth about this,” Rachel Maddow said.

“NBC News has learned from sources close to the Trump-Russia investigation that both the Trump transition and the White House did do a background check on Flynn,” Maddow said. “This is in addition to his already approved security clearance. They did a background check on Flynn specifically for him to become National Security adviser.”
