Sanders Agrees, Shut Down The Senate If Necessary To Stop Obamacare Repeal

Senator Bernie Sanders on Sunday confirmed his support for doing “everything possible” to prevent Republicans from repealing Obamacare.

CNN reported Saturday that Senate Democrats are considering the controversial move of shutting down the Senate in order to prevent Republicans from forcing through the unpopular Republican health bill through the Senate.

During an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Jake Tapper asked Sanders if Senate Democrats were indeed planning a shut down the Senate over the GOP health care bill.

“Jake, I think that the Democrats in the Congress should do everything possible, A, to defeat that legislation, which is, again, to my mind, unspeakable,” Sanders said.

After Tapper pressed Sanders again, the Vermont Senator replied saying, “I am in favor of the American people and members of Congress doing everything that we can to defeat that horrific piece of legislation that will hurt tens and tens of millions of people in our country.”

Republicans are hoping to pass the bill before Congress leaves on recess for the July 4 holiday.

Reports have indicated that the Senate bill is at least 80% identical to the bill passed by the House GOP.
