Democrats Press White House Over Kushner Security Clearance

Dems Blast Trump White House Over Kushner Security Clearance Concerns.

House Democrats on the Oversight Committee are demanding answers from the Trump White House about why Jared Kushner still has a security clearance despite his failure to disclose meetings with Russian officials while he was seeking clearance.

Congressman Elijah Cummings, the ranking Democrat on the committee, sent a letter signed by the committee’s Democrats to Donald Trump’s Chief of Staff Reince Priebus requesting documents related to Kushner’s security clearance by July 5.

The letter also discusses the White House’s “failure to suspend General [Michael] Flynn’s Security Clearance.”

“We have serious concerns about whether the White House is properly safeguarding classified information,” Cummings wrote.

Cummings says that Kushner misled the American public in his security clearance forms.

“It appears that Mr. Kushner allowed his colleagues at the White House — and the American people — to be misled about his multiple communications with Russian officials,” the letter reads.

Cummings closes the letter by warning Trump that it “would be gravely concerning” if other White House officials knew about Kushner’s undisclosed contacts with foreign officials while they made “misleading” statements.

“In any case,” Cummings wrote, “it is unclear why Mr. Kushner continues to have access to classified information while these allegations are being investigated.”
