Gallup: Trump transition has lowest approval rating ever recorded

According to a new Gallup poll released Friday, Donald Trump’s transition has the lowest approval rating that Gallup has ever recorded. 51 percent of Americans say they disapprove of how he’s handled the transition, while only a meager 44 percent approve.

Donald Trump’s numbers are especially bad, because American presidents usually experience a honeymoon period between Election Day and Inauguration Day.

To provide some perspective, President Barack Obama had a 83 percent approval rating a week before his inauguration in 2009. George W. Bush, who also lost the popular vote similar to Trump but by a much smaller margin, had a 61 percent approval rating in 2001.

Making matters even worse for Trump, his approval rating had dipped since December. The American people were split 48 percent to 48 percent.

The numbers have also been split by political party – where 87 percent of Republicans approve of Trump while only 13 percent of Democrats see his transition as going well.

Trump’s lackluster numbers are also reflected in his Cabinet nominees who were rated below average/poor by 44 percent. Obama’s picks were 10 percent and Bush’s were 13 percent.

Gallup conducted this poll from January 4 to 8 via cell phone and landline with 1,032 adults nationwide.
