Donald Trump spent a lot of time during the campaign attacking Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified information. Additionally, Michael Flynn joined Trump in attacking Hillary Clinton.

The Washington Post investigation reveals the retired Army general “inappropriately shared” classified information with foreign military officers in Afghanistan.

The information was obtained the Washington Post through a Freedom of Information Act request. The documents show that Flynn lacked authorization to share the classified material. An army investigation determined that Flynn would not be reprimanded concluding that he did not act “knowingly” and that “there was no actual or potential damage to national security as a result.”

Michael Flynn had previously claimed that he had permission to share the classified information. However, the Army files contradict that claim offering the first official account of the case.

According to the Washington Post: “Former U.S. officials familiar with the matter said that Flynn was accused of telling allies about the activities of other agencies in Afghanistan, including the CIA.”

Micheal Flynn had previously acknowledged that he had been under investigation while serving as the head of Army intelligence in Afghanistan. Flynn has been quoted as saying: “The investigation on me was for sharing intelligence with the Brits and Australians in combat, and I’m proud of that one… I did it with the right permissions when you dig into the investigation. I’m proud of that one. Accuse me of sharing intelligence in combat with our closest allies, please.”
