Government Report: Trump’s Wall Will Cost Double What Trump Said

According to a report by the Department of Homeland Security, Donald Trump’s border wall will cost double what Trump has suggested. An internal report by the Department of Homeland Security puts the cost of a border wall with Mexico at $21.6 billion, which is substantially more than Trump has said it will cost.

According to Reuters, the border wall estimate came from a group put together by DHS Secretary John Kelly that Reuters described as a “final step” before asking Congress for taxpayer funds to begin on the wall.

Reuters noted that much of the cost difference comes from the cost of buying private land necessary for building the wall as well as the cost of complying with the International Boundary and Water Commission which is an agreement between the United States and Mexico.

The Washington Post has placed the cost of building Trump’s wall at at least, $25 billion, according to their fact-checkers based on discussions with engineers and contractors.
