The news outlets that were note permitted to attend included: The New York Times, The Hill, Politico, BuzzFeed, the Daily Mail, BBC, the Los Angeles Times and the New York Daily News.

Some major news outlets were allowed into the gaggle including: ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, Reuters, Bloomberg and McClatchy.

And the Associated Press and Time magazine were allowed in but refused to attend.

The White House Correspondents’ Association sharply slammed the White House’s decision saying in a statement,  “The WHCA board is protesting strongly against how today’s gaggle is being handled by the White House.”

“We encourage the organizations that were allowed in to share the material with others in the press corps who were not,” he added. “The board will be discussing this further with White House staff.”

It is notable that that some of the news outlets that were banned are the same ones that Donald Trump has attacked over the last few weeks.

New York Times and other media outlets respond to being banned

This is how the New York Times responded to being banned from the briefing, “Nothing like this has ever happened at the White House in our long history of covering multiple administrations of different parties. We strongly protest the exclusion of The New York Times and the other news organizations. Free media access to a transparent government is obviously of crucial national interest.”
