NYT: FBI Director Asked Justice Department To Reject Trump Wiretap Claim

FBI Director James Comey has asked the Justice Department to publicly reject President Trump’s claims that former President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower before the election.

According to senior American officials who spoke with The New York Times, Comey has said the president’s wiretapping allegations are not true and asked the Justice Department on Saturday to publicly correct the record.

The New York Times piece said:

“Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.

“Mr. Comey, who made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter, has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down the claim because it falsely insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.”

Trump and the White House have shown no evidence for Donald Trump’s claim and it has been reported that Trump read a story in rightwing Breitbart website which showed no evidence.
