Republican’s Obamacare Replacement Plan Would Hurt Low-Income And Older Americans

House Republicans on Monday released their long awaited Obamacare replacement plan and as expected, the Republican plan would hurt low income and other vulnerable groups.

The Republican plan would provide less financial assistance to low-income and older Americans than Obamacare. While higher higher income earners and younger Americans would benefit from the Republican plan.

Rather than provide a subsidy based on income, the new system would provide a tax credit that ranges between $2,000 to $4,000 a year that would increase with person’s age.

The current Republican plan would, as Democrats have warned, would put the 20 million people who have gained insurance through Obamacare at risk if Republicans phase out Medicaid expansion and reduce tax credits for low income earners.

Republicans have already acknowledged that their plan would cover less people than Obamacare.

Four Republican Senators announced on Monday that they would not support any replacement bill that doesn’t protect Medicaid expansion.
