DNC Chief: CBO Analysis Shows Trumpcare Is ‘A Big Fat Lie’

Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez slammed Donald Trump and the Republicans for proposing a health plan that would cost 24 million people their health insurance. Following the Congressional Budget Office report, Perez slammed Trump for failing to fulfill his promise of “insurance for everyone.”

“Donald Trump’s ‘insurance for everybody’ pledge was a big fat lie … the plan slashes Medicaid, drives up the cost of care for older Americans, and defunds life-saving services provided by Planned Parenthood. The only winners here are Trump, and the corporations and rich people who get to pocket new tax breaks,” Perez said in a statement after the CBO report on Monday.

“Of course, instead of admitting that the bill would leave millions without health insurance, Republicans are desperately trying to discredit the CBO with more ‘alternative facts.’ The American people are smarter than that.”

The DNC Chair, joined other prominent Democrats who blasted the Republican health plan after the CBO report revealed that 24 million people would lose their health insurance.

Here is how other Democrats reacted to the CBO estimate:

Bernie Sanders on CBO report: “Thousands of Americans will die.”

“If this legislation is passed and millions of people are thrown off health insurance…thousands of Americans will die,” Sanders told reporter Monday.

“I think that legislation is disgusting. It is immoral. It must defeated and I hope there is enough sense amongst some of the Republicans.”

Chuck Schumer said “TrumpCare will cause serious harm to millions of American families.”

“The CBO’s estimate makes clear that TrumpCare will cause serious harm to millions of American families,” Schumer said in a statement. “Tens of millions will lose their coverage, and millions more, particularly seniors, will have to pay more for health care. The CBO score shows just how empty the president’s promises, that everyone will be covered and costs will go down, have been. This should be a looming stop sign for the Republicans repeal effort.”
