Trump To Stop Considering Climate Change Impact From Government Reviews: Report

According to a new report in Bloomberg, Donald Trump plans to reverse an Obama administration environmental standard by removing climate change as a factor in making government decisions.

The decision would impact environmental reviews of industry regulations, appliance standards and pipeline projects, the Bloomberg report noted.

The Obama administration added the climate change consideration as a means to help the federal government consider longer term climate impact related to environmental reviews. President Obama required that government agencies submit formal environmental reviews that included the possible economic harm and impact projects would have from climate change.

The move would be the latest in a broader effort by Trump and the Republicans to dismantle the major strides made by the Obama administration in addressing climate change.

The Bloomberg report also notes that the Trump order would wipe out industry restrictions on methane emissions.

The Trump order would also “compel the Environmental Protection Agency to undo the Clean Power Plan, an Obama-era rule that forced states to slash the use of coal-fired electricity,” Bloomberg reported.
