House Oversight Committee Investigating Payments To Flynn From Foreign Governments: Chaffetz

Foreign government payments to Michael Flynn under scrutiny by House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Congressman Jason Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, on Monday confirmed that his committee is investigating payments that Michael Flynn received from foreign governments.

“Our committee [has] actually been looking at something,” the Utah Republican said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“We have paperwork that’s due from the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department today, but we may be doing something later this week related to his payments that he received from not only Russia but Turkey as well,” Chaffetz continued.

“You’re just not allowed to accept these types of payments as a former military officer.” “It’s not a criminal referral,” he said. “But a referral to the GAO, and then the penalty most likely — at least based on precedent — would be he’d have to repay all that money that he did take.”

Chaffetz also was dismissive of the idea that Flynn could receive immunity. “I don’t think he should get immunity,” he said. “Immunity for what?”

Michael Flynn received over $50,000 from Russian firms that are closely linked to the Russian government and he originally failed to report that information in ethics documents he filed before he was fired as national security adviser.
