Trump White House Won’t Release Visitor Logs, Will Be Kept Secrete For 5 Years After Trump Leaves Office

Trump throws out Obama-era open government practice of releasing White House visitor logs.

The Trump administration announce on Friday that it will not release White House visitor logs, breaking an open government practice that President Obama put in place.

As an excuse for not releasing the list of who is meeting with Donald Trump, the White House cited “the grave national security risks and privacy concerns.”

Good-government watchdogs argue that the Amerian people have a right to know who is visiting the White House. In fact, three ethics organization have sued the Trump administration this week demanding the visitor logs be made public.

The three organizations are the National Security Archive, Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington and the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University. All three organizations have all filed Freedom of Information Act lawsuits demanding that the Trump administration release of the White House visitor logs.

The Trump White House said that the visitor logs will be kept secret for five years after Donald Trump leaves office.
