Disapproval Of Republican Congress Surging Under Donald Trump: Poll

Voters are increasingly unhappy with Republican control of Congress and Speaker Paul Ryan.

American disapproval of Republican control of Congress and Speaker Paul Ryan are increasing, according to a new poll.

In the new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll published Monday, disapproval of Paul Ryan was 40 percent, compared with 22 percent who have a positive view. That represents major shift since February when there was just a 1 point gap between Ryan’s favorable and unfavorable numbers. The new poll shows an 18-point gap in Ryan’s favorable/unfavorable ratings.

And the poll indicates that the growing dissatisfaction with Ryan is happening at the same time that disapproval is increasing for the Republican-controlled Congress.

Almost 3/4 of Americans in the poll disapprove of the performance of Congress which has rocketed up 12 points since February.

The dissatisfaction with the Republican Congress is coming as a result of “A shift among Republicans also helped account for the declining approval of Congress.”

The poll found that 58 percent of Republicans disapprove of the job lawmakers are doing and 31 percent approving. In February, Republicans were basically split.

About the poll: The Journal/NBC News poll was based on nationwide telephone interviews with 900 adults from April 17-20. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.27 percentage points, with larger margins of error for subgroups.
