Republicans Exempt Their Own Health Insurance In Latest Obamacare Repeal Proposal

Republican members of Congress want to keep all the awesome Obamacare provisions for themselves but they are cool with you losing them.

After the catastrophic failure of Republican’s first attempt to repeal Obamacare it’s unclear why they are so eager to try again – but for some reason they are. Just hours after it was reported that Republicans in the House had struck a deal that will let states take away pre-existing condition protections, the good folks at Vox report that Republicans were careful to make sure that they exempt themselves from their own proposal.

Which begs the question, if it’s not good enough for members of Congress – do you trust it for your family?

Vox noted that “The new Republican amendment, introduced Tuesday night, would allow states to waive out of Obamacare’s ban on pre-existing conditions.” That means millions of Americans could be charged more for health care if they have an illness like cancer unless of course, they are members of Congress. The Republican plan would also exempt Congressional staff.

This is also the opposite of the how President Obama and Democrats approached health care. Under Obamacare, members of Congress (and staff) are required to purchase coverage on the individual market, like everyone else who gets insurance through Obamacare.

Are you following that? Obama and Democrats think that if it’s good enough for the American people then it’s good enough for Congress. But Republicans seem to think if it’s good enough for the American people then there is no freaking way it’s good enough for Congress.
