Trump Transition Warned Flynn About Conversations With Russian Ambassador: Report

Trump administration knowingly appointed Flynn as national security adviser despite Russia concerns.

Senior Trump transition officials were so concerned about Flynn’s Russia connections that they warned him that calls with the Russian ambassador would almost certainly be recorded. According to a new report by the Washington Post, “Flynn was told during a late November meeting that Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak’s conversations were almost certainly being monitored by U.S. intelligence agencies, officials said, a caution that came a month before Flynn was recorded discussing U.S. sanctions against Russia with Kislyak, suggesting that the Trump administration would reevaluate the issue.”

The Washington Post report reveals important new details about the Trump-Russia scandal. First, it contradicts the Trump administration’s attempts to play dumb about Russia. They knew it was a big deal and they worked to limit Flynn’s interactions with the Russian ambassador. Second, it reveals just how suspicious and inappropriate Flynn’s behavior was. And third, and most importantly, it tells us that Trump administration knowingly appointed Flynn as national security adviser despite Russia concerns.

According to the Washington Post, “Officials were so concerned that Flynn did not fully understand the motives of the Russian ambassador that the head of Trump’s national security council transition team asked Obama administration officials for a classified CIA profile of Kislyak, officials said. The document was delivered within days, officials said, but it is not clear that Flynn ever read it.”
