Senator Schumer Calls For Special Prosecutor In Trump-Russia Scandal

“If no special prosecutor is appointed, everyone is going to suspect a cover-up.”

Following Donald Trump’s disturbing decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, the Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer called for a special prosecutor to investigate the Russia investigation.

During a hastily called press conference Senator Schumer said: “If no special prosecutor is appointed, everyone is going to suspect a cover-up.”

Schumer also, said “This investigation needs to be conducted as far away as possible from the White House.”

Schumer pointed out that there is “a troubling pattern” emerging with Trump firings. First Trump fired acting Attorney General Sally Yates, then U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara and now the FBI Director, Schumer noted.

“Why now?” Schumer asked during the hastily called press conference Tuesday.

“Any person that Trump appoints to lead the Russia investigation will be concerned that they will meet the same fate as Director Comey if they run afoul of the administration. … The only way the American people can have faith in this investigation is for it to be lead by a fearless special prosecutor.”
