Senator Susan Collins: White House Needs To Brief Senate Intel Committee On Trump Russia Leak

Republican Senator demands White House immediately brief Intel Committee on Trump’s leak to Russia.

Members of Congress from both sides of the aisle continue to voice their outrage with Donald Trump after the bombshell story Monday evening revealing that Trump leaked highly classified intelligence to the Russians.

And now Republican Senator Susan Collins of Maine is demanding the White House brief the Senate Intelligence Committee about Trump’s revelation of sensitive information to the Russian foreign minister and ambassador during an Oval Office meeting last week.

Collins, who is a member of the Senate’s Intelligence Committee said in a statement, “Although the President has the legal authority to disclose classified information, it would be very troubling if he did share such sensitive reporting with the Russians. The Senate Intelligence Committee should be briefed on this important issue immediately.”

Collins also added that “the disclosure of highly classified information has the potential to jeopardize sources and to discourage our allies from sharing future information vital to our security.”

Senator John McCain on Tuesday also released a statement with harsh words calling Donald Trump’s actions “deeply disturbing.”

“The reports that the President shared sensitive intelligence with Russian officials are deeply disturbing,” McCain said in a statement.

McCain’s statement continued, “Regrettably, the time President Trump spent sharing sensitive information with the Russians was time he did not spend focusing on Russia’s aggressive behavior, including its interference in American and European elections, its illegal invasion of Ukraine and annexation of Crimea, its other destabilizing activities across Europe, and the slaughter of innocent civilians and targeting of hospitals in Syria.”
