Manafort Registers As A Foreign Agent For Ukraine Work

Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Paul Manafort on Tuesday formally registered as paid foreign agent for his work in Ukraine for Russia linked political party, the Party of Regions.

Manafort reported making $17.1 million over a two-year period working for the Ukrainian political party.

According to The Washington Post, Manafort submitted his paperwork with the Justice Department on Tuesday evening which includes an 87-page document that lists individual meetings with policymakers intended to influence U.S. policy toward Ukraine and payments from the client.

The filing covers work done between 2012 and 2014, when Manafort and his associate Rick Gates led an effort to improve the image of pro-Russian Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, who was eventually expelled from office by protests in the country. Yanukovych fled to Russia.

According to the report, as part of the filing, “Manafort disclosed he met in 2013 with Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, an outspoken California Republican known for advocating closer ties between the U.S. and the Kremlin.”

Manafort’s work for the Russia-linked Party of Regions in Ukraine is one of the subjects of the Russia investigation being conducted by Special Counsel Robert Muller.

Manafort resigned from the Trump campaign in August 2015 after it was reported that his name had appeared in a ledger found in Kiev detailing millions of dollars in under-the-table payments from the Party of Regions. Manafort has consistently denied wrongdoing and said that reports alleging that he received funds improperly from Ukrainian interests are false.
