Trump Commission Was Warned About Asking For Sensitive Voter Information: Report

Donald Trump’s “voter fraud” commission is not off to a great start. First, nearly all fifty states have denied the Trump commission’s request for highly sensitive voter information.

And now it is being reported that the Trump group was warned about the collection highly sensitive voter information.

According to a report by the Huffington Post, “Maine Secretary of State Matthew Dunlap (D), a member of the commission, cautioned it had to be careful.”

“I had suggested only going after information that was legally publicly available and doing it as a request and not as a demand,” Dunlap said in an interview.

“I said, you want to be careful how you go at this because election officials are very sensitive guardians of this information, so you want to make sure you’re asking for it, not demanding it, and that it really should only cover the information that is publicly available in your state.”

Because Kris Kobach, the commission’s vice chair, was the only one to sign the request the group decided it didn’t need to follow the advice from Dunlap.

But as the request clearly states, the Trump administration wants all “publicly available voter roll data” ― including, “if publicly available,” information like the last four digits of voters’ Social Security Numbers, felony convictions and voter histories.”
