Joe Biden May Have Helped Convince John McCain To Vote No On Obamacare Repeal

Uncle Joe for the win!

Obamacare supporters might have former Vice President Joe Biden to thank for helping save the landmark health care bill this week.

According to a report in the Washington Post, prior to voting no on the so-called “skinny” repeal bill John McCain received a phone call from former Vice President Joe Biden asking him to vote no.

McCain also received a call from his longtime friend Joe Liberman also urging him to vote against the repeal bill.

The Washington Post report lays out the conversation between the Arizona Senator and Mr. Biden. “Biden, the former vice president who often clashed in a collegial way with McCain on foreign policy matters, had a more emotional discussion with McCain. The Arizonan’s brain cancer is the same diagnosis that Biden’s son, Beau, received in 2013; he died two years later. Those conversations set in motion the most dramatic night in modern Senate history. Just ask the senators who were there. The decisions of Collins, McCain and Murkowski to buck their party put the Senate on the verge of protracted bipartisan talks that McCain might not witness because he is scheduled Monday to begin chemotherapy treatment for his cancer,” The Washington Post reported.

McCain ultimately joined his colleagues Lisa Murkowski and Susan Collins in voting no on the “skinny” repeal bill.

All Democrats voted no on the bill.

The CBO analysis found that the “skinny” repeal bill would cause insurance premiums to skyrocket and cause at least 16 million people to lose their health insurance.
