Mueller Crosses Trump’s Red Line, Looking Into His Finances: Report

Checkmate, Donald.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into collusion between Donald Trump’s campaign and the Russian government has expanded to include Trump’s finances and possible financial crimes, according to a new CNN report.

According to CNN, “The web of financial ties could offer a more concrete path toward potential prosecution than the broader and murkier questions of collusion in the 2016 campaign, these sources said.”

The investigation has widened to include financial crimes “alongside the ongoing scrutiny of possible illegal coordination with Russian spy agencies and alleged attempts by President Donald Trump and others to obstruct the FBI investigation,” CNN reports.

And investigations involving Trump associates that may not be connected to the Russia investigation are being referred to Mueller’s office which is meant to encourage subjects to cooperate, according to CNN’s law enforcement sources.

During an interview with the New York Times a few weeks ago, Trump said that he considered Mueller looking into his personal finances to be a red line. However, unfortunately for Trump, Mueller has been given a broad mandate to investigate anything that “arose or may arise directly from the investigation.”

Another important revelation from the CNN report is that US intelligence intercepts of Russian spies included discussion of coordination with Trump associates. CNN reported, “investigators turned up intercepted communications appearing to show efforts by Russian operatives to coordinate with Trump associates on damaging Hillary Clinton’s election prospects, officials said. CNN has learned those communications included references to campaign chairman Paul Manafort.”
