Trump Sends Sessions To Do His Dirty Work On DACA

Trump administration officially announces end to DACA.

President Trump sent his attorney general out to do the dirty work on DACA Tuesday morning. Attorney General Jeff Sessions made the announcement from the Justice Department that the Trump administration will end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program.

“The program known as DACA that was effectuated under the Obama administration is being rescinded,” Sessions announced Tuesday.

The announcement sets up a potential fight in Congress over how to protect the 800,000 young Americans who were protected from deportation by DACA.

DACA will be ended in six months, Sessions said Tuesday.

President Obama put the program in place through a 2012 executive order.

DACA recipients were undocumented immigrants brought to the country as children. They passed background checks and paid a fee to get a deferral from deportation and a work permit.
