Jimmy Kimmel Thanks Susan Collins For Voting No On Obamacare Repeal

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel thanked Senator Susan Collins on Monday for “putting people ahead of party” after Collins announced that she would vote no on the latest Obamacare repeal bill.

“Thank you @SenatorCollins for putting people ahead of party,” Kimmel tweeted. “We are all in your debt.”

Collins announced Monday that she would vote no the GOP’s last-ditch effort to repeal Obamacare.

“Health care is a deeply personal, complex issue that affects every single one of us and one-sixth of the American economy. Sweeping reforms to our health care system and to Medicaid can’t be done well in a compressed time frame, especially when the actual bill is a moving target,” she said in a statement.

Senator John McCain announced last week that he could not “in good conscience vote for the Graham-Cassidy proposal.”

“I believe we could do better working together, Republicans and Democrats, and have not yet really tried. Nor could I support it without knowing how much it will cost, how it will effect insurance premiums, and how many people will be helped or hurt by it. Without a full CBO score, which won’t be available by the end of the month, we won’t have reliable answers to any of those questions,” McCain continued.

Jimmy Kimmel rocketed into the national debate on health care earlier this year when he shared an emotional story about his newborn son Billy Kimmel’s heart defect. Kimmel pleaded with Washington to preserve Obamacare protections for all children, regardless of how much money their parents have.
