Mueller Just Filed New Charges Against Manafort, Gates

The new charges were filed in a sealed court filing.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller has filed new charges in the criminal case against former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and campaign aide Rick Gates, Politico is reporting.

According to the report, the new charges were put under seal by the court which prevents the public from knowing the details of the criminal charge.

It is likely to be a superseding indictment which would add new charges or potentially even new defendants to the indictments that Mueller filed against Manafort and Gates in October 2016.

The news of the new charges comes after Mueller notified a federal judge that the government has new evidence of bank fraud by Paul Manafort.

According to the Office of the Special Counsel, Manafort engaged in “a series of bank frauds and bank fraud conspiracies” in connection with a home loan he sought in 2016.

The Special Counsel told the court that Manafort obtained the loan using “doctored profit and loss statements” that overstated “by millions of dollars” the income of his consulting business.

It is unclear whether the new charges against Manafort and Gates are related to the bank fraud charges or a new set of charges.
