A new batch of polls show that President Trump’s base is eroding.

As the government shutdown reaches deeper into record territory, Donald Trump’s approval rating is down. According to a batch of newly released polls Trump’s approval rating is hovering near record lows.

Trump approval is down

A Pew Research poll released Friday found that Trump’s approval stands at just 37 percent. And in a new NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll out this week, Trump’s approval rating is down to 39 percent while his disapproval rating up to 53 percent. That’s a 7 point negative change from the December poll.

Trump’s base of support is eroding

However, it’s not just Trump’s overall approval rating that is down, he’s also losing significant support from his base.

According to the same NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll Trump’s support among suburban men – a key group of support for him – is down significantly among suburban men. Trump’s approval among suburban men has slid a whopping 18 points from a 51-to-39 net positive to a net negative of 42-to-48.

Trump is also down among white evangelicals, another key part of his constituency. According to the NPR survey, Trump has dropped 13 points with white evangelicals from 73-to-17 percent approve to 66-to-23 percent approve.

And among Republicans more broadly, Trump is down 10 points from 90-to-7 percent approve to 83-to-10 percent.

The story is the same in the Pew Research survey as well.

Among non-college educated whites, 50 percent approve of Trump’s job performance, while 48 percent disapprove – a net 15-point swing downward from a Pew poll conducted a year ago.

But it doesn’t end there.

A new SSRS/CNN poll found that Trump’s job approval rating among white people without a college degree is 45 percent, which is down 9 points since early December.

And a Quinnipiac survey out this week showed Trump’s job rating among these same voters had slipped from a net 19-point positive margin to a net 10-point positive margin.
