Manhattan Prosecutor Joins Special Counsel’s Russia Investigation

An expert public corruption prosecutor just joined Muller’s Russia team.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team is quickly expanding and according to a new report in the New York Times, a federal prosecutor in Manhattan is the newest member of the team.

Andrew Goldstein, who is currently the chief of the public corruption unit in Manhattan, is now working with Mueller on the Russia investigation.

Goldstein’s office is known for its work prosecuting public corruption and white-collar crimes.

Mueller has added several experts in the area of financial crimes recently in a sign that the investigation is turning towards the business records of Trump and his associates.

According to the New York Times, “Mr. Goldstein is the first prosecutor to join Mr. Mueller’s team from the United States attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York, an office known for its pursuit of public corruption, white-collar crime and Wall Street fraud.”

Goldstein was a part of prosecuting team that won the conviction of former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver in 2015.

“The special counsel is lucky to be getting Andrew, and we are lucky to have Tatiana,” Joon Kim, the acting U.S. attorney in Manhattan, said in an email to his office this week, according to the Times.
