Senator Dianne Feinstein says Russian involvement changed outcome of election

California Senator Dianne Feinstein said on Sunday that Russian interference in the presidential election “altered the outcome.” Feinstein added that the classified briefings have laid out a “very sophisticated effort” by Russia to impede Hillary Clinton’s campaign.

Senator Feinstein strongly suggested that she believed Clinton would have if it had not been for Russian interference.

“It altered the outcome  — that’s what I believe,” Feinstein told NBC’s “Meet the Press” anchor Chuck Todd.

Senator Feinstein went on to say, “I have been astonished at what has been a two-year effort at Russia to spearfish, to hack, to provide disinformation, propaganda, wherever it really could. And I think this has been a very sophisticated effort.”

And Feinstein also said of the pending Senate investigation into the Russian election interference that it must be “full and robust,” adding that if it is not that she and Sen. Mark Warner of Virginia would push for an outside investigator.

“We cannot ignore what has happened,” she said. “To ignore it is really to commit ourselves to a very bad future.”

Senator Feinstein also said that the declassified version of the intelligence report showed that Russian entities hacked both parties “but with the aim of hurting Hillary Clinton.”

“Look, I’m certainly not going to leave this in limbo. Because this is the future of America. It’s the future of democracy. And if we can’t carry out an election without disinformation being pumped into it by another country, we’ve got a huge destruction of our system going on.”

Senator Feinstein also laid blame for Clinton’s loss, at least in part, on the actions of FBI Director James B. Comey, who decided 11 days before the election to announce a renewed investigation into Clinton’s emails. To then only two days before the election admit that the renewed investigation had turned up nothing.
