How Trump Sabotaged Obamacare Sign-Ups In Final Days

You might remember that Donald Trump decided to pull all the Obamacare advertising in the final days of the sign-up period – even though the ads had already been paid for and the government would lose the money. But you know sabotaging Obamacare is more important to this president than Americans signing up for health insurance.

Well, now it looks like there is some data suggesting that Donald Trump’s sabotage worked.

Sign-ups for the Affordable Care Act dropped dramatically in the final two weeks leading up to the enrollment deadline after Donald Trump and his administration pulled advertising reminding Americans about the deadline and how to sign up and repeatedly said they planned to repeal the health care law.

And here is how the numbers compare to last year.

In 2017, 376,260 people signed up between January 15 and Januar 31, according to the official numbers released by the Department of Health and Human Services.

And that compares to the 686,708 people who signed up for coverage in the week before the deadline alone in 2016.

Overall, for 2017 9.2 million people signed up for coverage through healthcare.gov, compared to 9.6 people who signed up in 2016.

But the enrollment numbers this year were on track with 2016 until the final weeks of the enrollment period, when there is usually a surge in people signing up for coverage – but unfortunately, there was no advertising to remind people about the deadline.

Seems pretty clear that Trump’s sabotage worked and now a few hundred thousand American will spend 2017 without health insurance thanks to President Trump.
