Report: Michael Flynn’s Top Aide Was Denied Security Clearance

A report by Politico noted that one of National Security Adviser Michael Flynn’s top aides was denied security clearance to serve on the National Security Council.

According to Politico, Robin Townley who is the senior Africa director on the NSC was notified Friday that the CIA has denied his “Sensitive Compartmented Information” security clearance.

And CIA Director Mike Pompeo approved of the rejection according to the Politico report.

The Politico report noted, “The move came as Flynn’s already tense relationships with others in the Trump administration and the intelligence community were growing more fraught after reports that Flynn had breached diplomatic protocols in his conversations with the Russian ambassador to the United States.”

As a result of the security clearance rejection,  Robin Townley was forced out of the position.
“They believe this is a hit job from inside the CIA on Flynn and the people close to him,” an unnamed source told Politico. “Townley believes that the CIA doesn’t run the world.”
