BREAKING: U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara Fired
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara, who is the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York has been fired by the Trump administration. In November, Bharara was offered the opportunity to stay on as U.S. Attorney by Trump and Jeff Sessions.
“I did not resign. Moments ago I was fired. Being the US Attorney in SDNY will forever be the greatest honor of my professional life,” Bharara tweeted.
A senior administration official confirmed that Bharara had been fired.
On Friday, Sessions asked the 46 remaining Obama-appointed U.S. Attorneys to resign. The move is a bit unorthodox because the Trump administration has yet to name replacements for the 46 positions – potentially jeopardizing important case work.
