Bernie Sanders Announces He will Oppose Neil Gorsuch

On Thursday Senator Bernie Sanders announced that he will oppose Judge Neil Gorsuch’s nomination to the Supreme Court. Sanders joins with other Democrats particularly the progressive wing of Senate Democrats that will be voting against Gorsuch.

“After careful consideration of Judge Gorsuch’s record, I have concluded that I will not vote to confirm him to be an associate justice of the Supreme Court,” Sanders said.

Sanders said that Gorsuch “refused to answer legitimate questions.”

“I will not support Republican efforts to change the rules to choke off debate and ram the nomination through the Senate,” Sanders continued.

Sanders, who is a member of Democratic leadership in the Senate, joins Democratic Leader Schumer who also announced Thursday that he will be opposing Gorsuch.

“He will have to earn 60 votes for confirmation. My vote will be no, and I urge my colleagues to do the same,” Schumer said on the Senate floor.
