Former Labor Secretary – and current explainer of complicated things – Robert Reich in a video released with MoveOn.org explains how Donald Trump and Republicans use so-called voter fraud commissions as voter suppression methods.
Reich opens the video by explaining how the 2013 Supreme Court decision to gut the Voting Rights Act has opened the door for voter suppression efforts around the country – especially in the south where historic voter suppression of African Americans took place.
But now, states are finding new ways to deny the vote to blacks and other likely Democratic voters.
Reich also explains how Republicans have used gerrymandering to ensure Republican majority districts.
The former Labor Secretary closes the video with a call for a new Voting Rights Act to ensure every person has not just the right but also the ability to vote.
