On Thursday the Wall Street Journal released a bombshell report that connected a longtime Republican operative’s attempts last year to recruit Russian hackers who he thought had stolen Hillary Clinton’s emails with the Trump campaign through Michael Flynn.

And on Friday, the Wall Street Journal published a follow-up story that implicated other prominent members of the Trump circle – Steve Bannon, Kellyanne Conway and Sam Clovis (in addition to Flynn).

The Wall Street Journal reporting also included an important new piece of information – U.S. investigators have intelligence reports of Russian hackers discussing stealing Clinton emails and passing them to Micheal Flynn.

During her broadcast Friday night, Rachel Maddow explained exactly why these Wall Street Journal reports are so important. As Maddow notes, these are the first reports of actual collusion between Americans and Russian hackers.

“It was the first detailed reporting we’ve ever had — actually, the first reporting we’ve ever had — that describes what appears to be an effort at American collusion with a Russian attack on our election last year,” Maddow said.
