Trump Fails to Recognize Pride Month

Remember when Trump said during his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention, “I will do everything in my power to protect our LGBTQ citizens.” He has obviously forgotten that statement since stepping into office.

Trump has rolled back the Obama administration’s stance that transgender children had the right to use the school bathroom that corresponds to their gender identity. Then he revered a rule that companies have to prove they treat LGBT employees fairly.

And now, Trump broke with an 8-year White House tradition in officially recognizing June as LGBT Pride Month.

Other members of Trump’s administration, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, issued statements marking the month, but Trump never officially acknowledged it.

Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown of Ohio decided to step in where the White House is clearly failing to introduce a Senate resolution that formally recognizes June as LGBT Pride month.

“This year, the White House broke with an 8 year tradition and did not issue a presidential proclamation acknowledging June as Pride Month,” he wrote on Twitter. “So I’m proud to lead the first-ever Senate Resolution recognizing June as LGBTQ Pride Month.”
