Fox News Forced To Correct False Comey Leak Story

Fox & Friends was forced to issue a rare on-air correction on Tuesday morning following an incorrect story that former FBI Director James Comey leaked classified information in his personal memos. The incorrect Fox News story led Donald Trump to tweet accusing Comey of “illegal” activity.

On Monday, the show used a report from The Hill to falsely claim that Comey leaked, through a friend, memos containing “top secret” information to The New York Times.
In a brief comment on Tuesday’s show, host Steve Doocy after repeating the claim before saying, “We were mistaken in that. According to the report, half of the memos contained information classified at the secret or confidential level, not top secret.”
The Fox host did not, however, acknowledge the fact that the show’s false report was quickly retweeted by the president of the United States.
