Petition To Replace Confederate Statue With Missy Elliot Statue Gains Steam
Perfect way to troll Trump and his white supremacist buddies.
A Change.org petition to replace a Confederate statue in Virginia with a statue of Missy Elliott has received over 18,000 signatures, as of 4 pm PST Sunday.
The petition proposes to replace the Confederate Monument in Portsmouth, Virgina with a statue of Missy Elliott, who is a Portsmouth native.
In order to be delivered to the mayor of Portsmouth, the petition needs to receive 25,000 signatures.
The petition’s organizer wrote, “Together we can put white supremacy down, flip it and reverse it. Let us come together in getting City Council to erect this statue in honor of Missy Elliott and all those in the great City of Portsmouth who work it each and every day.”
The petition comes in the wake of the white supremacist violence in Charlottesville.
Senator Cory Booker introduced a bill this week that would remove all Confederate statues from the Capitol building.
