Trump Asked Top Intelligence Official To Intervene In Russia Investigation: Report

Bombshell Report Confirms Trump Obstructed Justice In Russia Probe.

According to a bombshell new report by the Washington Post, Donald Trump asked Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats to intervene in former FBI Director James Comey’s investigation into former national security adviser Michael Flynn as part of the bureau’s investigation of potential ties between the Trump campaign and Russia.

The report is the most detailed evidence yet of Trump obstructing justice.

According to the report, Trump asked Coats about interfering in the FBI’s investigation less than a week after being confirmed by the Senate in March.

The Washington Post report notes Director of National Intelligence Coats told associates that Trump had asked him to intervein in the FBI investigation being led by then-Director James Comey into whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians during the 2016 election.

According to the Washington Post report, “On March 22, less than a week after being confirmed by the Senate, Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats attended a briefing at the White House together with officials from several government agencies. As the briefing was wrapping up, Trump asked everyone to leave the room except for Coats and CIA Director Mike Pompeo.”

“The president then started complaining about the FBI investigation and Comey’s handling of it, said officials familiar with the account Coats gave to associates. Two days earlier, Comey had confirmed in a congressional hearing that the bureau was probing whether Trump’s campaign coordinated with Russia during the 2016 race.”

Pattern Matches The James Comey Memo

The report that Trump asked the Director of National Intelligence and the CIA Director both to stay in the room and asking everyone else to leave fits the pattern from James Comey’s memo.

Prosecutors have repeatedly said that Trump’s actions of asking people to leave the room indicate “consciousness of guilt” which is key in an obstruction of justice case.

Coats reportedly discussed the situation with other officials and ultimately decided Trump’s request was inappropriate. Trump’s request was made shortly after Comey publicly confirmed that the FBI was investigating possible Trump campaign connections to Russia.

Coats is expected to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday.
